Goodbye, Angel - RIP 04.04.2013

Hi All,
Just so you know ahead of time, I may be putting Angel down tomorrow.  He is just getting more and more uncomfortable.  I'll wait to see how he is in the morning but I'm not expecting anything except that maybe he might not make it through the night.
For Jonathan, since you haven't seen him in a while, he stopped eating about 6 days ago, had a fever.  He has taken two rounds of antibiotics with no help.  His blood work was good except for just slight anemia.  He now is so weak (living on just subcutaneous fluids that i administer every day) that I have to take him to the box to urinate, and today he defecated on himself because he couldn't get there.  He is constantly nauseous with a lot of drooling, so he might be in liver failure.  He is also having labored breathing now.  He's 12 or 13 but has had some health problems over the years and had a rough start in life but at least he didn't have to live like the feral cats and fight to survive every day.  I personally think that he even is taking the dying part like a trooper.
So, if you can't say goodbye in person, you can say it in spirit.  Ashley probably said her goodbye today when she picked Jacob up.
He may not have been an angel at first, but he sure turned out to be an angel amongst all our cats.  He was our pet therapy cat.
He will be remembered for Jenalee giving him walks outside, sleeping with Ashley and Alison and Jenalee and love from Jonathan, as well as me taking him in for a good home and no more trying to find food every day, and most importantly, getting neutered that helped change his behavior to an angel along with all the Brink's love.
He almost, and should have, died one year ago and was about to get the death shot, so I guess that was his 8th life.  This must be the 9th.  He is the strongest and toughest cat I have ever had.
love, mom xxoo

  1. Hi Sherry,

I feel your pain. So sorry about Angel getting so sick.

I remember some about our Siamese Angel. When it was time she stood by the living room door in Williamsville, I let her out and she was walking away - never having been outside there at all. So I picked her up and brought her inside I knew it was time as she had stopped eating for days.

13 years that would make Angel 91 in human years - so that's a very good long life especially at your house with the kids and animals and the good care you give.

Take care. Anything I can do just ask.

    Love,
    Mom xxoo

  2. Angel is gone now. He actually passed away on the table at the vet not even needing the lethal injection. He only needed the anxiety med to calm all the muscles down since they were contracting violently while gasping for air. Very hard to watch. He suffered all night like that. If there was a vet available that was not an emergency vet, I would have done it sooner. He started breathing trouble around dinnertime last night. This morning his belly was distended, even though he had not eaten for nearly a week. The vet thinks he may have had a latent FIP, which mutates at random and is always fatal. It might have developed into stomach cancer. Any cat can have get FIP but not every cat will have it mutate.

Anyway, I buried him and now he is outside, which is where he always wanted to be.
