The Waterbury Clock Co. was founded in 1857 as a subsidiary of the Benedict & Burnham Manufacturing Company in the area of North Elm Street, Cherry Street, and Cherry Avenue. Clocks were made in two buildings- one for movements, and one for cases. By the end of the 19th century, it employed 3,000 workers and turned out an amazing 20,000 clocks and watches a day. Spelter, brass, and silver novelty clock cases were also manufactured in the cases building with the Benedict Mfg. Company name.
